Two Big Summer Events in Belgrade

Belgrade Summer Festival BELEF 2010 started at  July 16th and will last until August 8th.
 - This year the Belgrade Summer Festival – BELEF, with the slogan ‘On The New Wave’, will attempt to present Belgrade as the cultural cent

re of the region, a city that offers an exceptional cultural scene and a tolerant, communicative, urban essence. – said Vladan Cerovi?, Director of the Belgrade Summer Festival.

He explained that the beginnings of The New Wave movement in Serbia were  traced back to the year of 1980 and the publication of the infamous record ‘Paket Aranžman’ (Package Deal). New, authentic aesthetics and perspective were introduced into our culture by Belgrade bands like Idoli (Idols), Šarlo Akrobata (Charles the Acrobat), and Elektri?ni Orgazam (Electric Orgazam). The New Wave espoused new ideas and  delivered a new generation of eminent artists and unique personalities, who together rendered Belgrade the charming and irresistible place it has remained to this day. 

So, with a number of concerts, photography exhibitions, screenings and panels  this year’s BELEF  that goes by the slogan ’On The New Wave’ will  mark 30 years of The New Wave movement. Playing again will be musicians and bands from all over Serbia and the region that had marked this movement. Performing alongside them will be some new and current representatives of alternative music from Serbia and the region whose performances will give an insight to the Belgrade auditorium into the current alternative music scene.

In the department of the visual arts and theatre there will also be a presentation of trends in the contemporary art scene of the region and Europe in cooperation with foreign cultural centres, forums and institutions in Serbia.

Within the visual programme  for the first time will be presented  the ’Open Cinema’ (Otvoreni Bioskop) programme with  several short, alternative and indie film and documentary festivals of the region. The ’Open Cinema’ program will be a unique, free of charge ’festival of a festival’ where all interested parties as well as those who accidentally happen to at the Kalemegdan Fortress will not only have the opportunity to to find out which festivals represent film production of this particular kind, but also to watch award winning films. 



Belgrade Beer Fest 2010

This year's Belgrade Beer Fest will take place at Usce Park, the most beautiful open air concert place in Belgrade, from 18th until 22nd of August. It is expected that visitors will exceed last year's record, where, for five nights of festival, gathered more than half a million people. Expectations are based on the fact that interest in the Beer Festival, both in Serbia and abroad, is growing from year to year, as well as the guarantee of the Belgrade Cultural Network, producer of the festival that this year's music program to overcome all the previous ones.

Belgrade Beer FestTM is with average number of visitors, the biggest music festival in Europe. Within 5 days over 500,000 people were visiting the Festival. The large number of visitors is mostly owing to the basic festival principles – entrance free of charge, miscellaneous music program and wide range of foreign and domestic beer brands.

Belgrade Beer FestTM was founded in year 2003. During the seven years over 3,000,000 visitors enjoyed in over 350 music performances (free of charge), tasted over 70 beer brands and were able to take part in numerous social campaigns.

Festival received numerous recognitions. Among these recognitions is a recommendation of the British newspaper The Independent placed the Belgrade Beer FestTM among 20 world events that should be seen.

In addition to that, well known professor Dennis Wilcox, in his book "PR Strategies and Tactics", used at over 350 Universities all over the world, presented Belgrade Beer FestTM as positive example of marketing and PR campaign.

One of the last recognitions, Festival received in 2009 as the marketing event of the year. This recognition was given by expert marketing magazine "Taboo", for a big social campaign "I choose to Recycle". The goals of the campaign were to build the ecological awareness in Serbia and to buy recycling containers for Belgrade elementary schools.

Festival is established as one of the most important segments in the Serbian tourist offer and as a brand which promotes Serbia and improves its image.
